Mike and Rowan who run monthly drum circles here at Maitri, are bringing Barra from Slí na Croí to Belfast for the first time to run an exclusive traditional dundun & djembe workshop.
For those who don’t know Barra, he has been studying village style Malinké music for over 14 years and his school ‘Slí na Croí- Malinké music of Upper Guinea’ has become the main training point in Ireland for those interested in traditional village style dundun and djembe.
Barra teaches at the Roundhouse in south Sligo, but has a performance group also called Slí na Croí who have played at nearly every festival in Ireland
He also founded KONDON drum & dance camp where he hosts Guineas finest djembefolas for 4 days camp in Sligo annually.
You can maybe tell, but the lads are beyond excited about being able to bring Barra to Belfast! He has a pretty tight schedule and we’re super lucky to get him in.
It’ll be a 5 hour workshop and in the last hour he’ll be sharing some traditional dance and song.
Mike & Rowan really can’t wait for you to experience the magic of these rhythms…
Sunday 8th December, 11-4PM
£60 for the 5 hours and availability will be limited because of the space.
