Mike offers drum circles here at Maitri Studio on the second (usually) Friday of each month at 7-8.30pm
Connection Club (formerly Curious Community) meets at Maitri Studio on the second Friday of each month, bringing people together through rhythm, movement, voice, and play.
We've been running regularly at Maitri since March 2023. During that time, we've built a beautiful network of people, with a mix of familiar faces and first-time attendees joining us every month. New people are connecting through the circle all the time, and one of our favourite sayings is:
"We'll connect through rhythm."
Expect drumming, creativity, expression and a little bit of using your voice. No performance, no pressure, and no need to "get it right". Just an opportunity to be present, playful, creative and part of something shared.
The roots of Connection Club come from the Village Music Circles approach to community drumming. The facilitation style and philosophy were originally inspired by the Village Music Circles Drum Circle Facilitator Training founded by Arthur Hull. Since then, the sessions have evolved and deepened through years of experience, practice and learning from a wide range of facilitators, musicians, movement practitioners, coaches, and community builders.
Today, Connection Club is a unique blend of these influences, creating an inclusive and engaging experience where people of all backgrounds can come together and connect through rhythm.
All drums are provided and no experience is necessary.

Who's it for?
Anyone can participate, regardless of musical experience. Whether you've never touched a drum before or have been playing for years, you're welcome.
Connection Club is about expression rather than perfection. It's an opportunity to explore rhythm, movement, creativity, and connection in a relaxed and supportive environment.
All drums and percussion are provided, so all you need to bring is curiosity and a willingness to join in. However if you have any bits or pieces you want to bring along, they are always welcome. Let’s see what we can cook up together.
What are the benefits?
Rhythm-based activities can help reduce stress, promote relaxation, boost mood and create a greater sense of connection with yourself and others.
Drumming engages both sides of the brain, encouraging coordination, focus, creativity, listening, and expression. Beyond the science, many people simply leave feeling more energised, present, grounded, and connected after sharing rhythm in a group setting.
At its heart, Connection Club isn't really about drumming.
It's about what happens when people come together, listen, participate and create something larger than themselves through the simple power of shared rhythm.
