Yoga for Athletes - Mondays 6.30-7.30pm, ongoing.
"I have been teaching this class for a couple of years now and it turns out that most people coming regularly to it are cyclists, runners, climbers or altogether active people (myself included!). So by default, to adapt to their needs, this class became a weekly stretching session for athletes.
In this class, we work on the breath, on areas of the body that might be particularly tight that week and on resilience, patience and balance - all needed if you practice a sport.
This is a practice open to all leading an active life, especially if you are feeling very stiff and feel the need to incorporate some slower movements in your week. You do not need to have practiced yoga before to join us. We are a very friendly bunch and you will feel right at home with us!"
You can drop-in for £10 or purchase a 6 week pass for £50 that saves you a class worth.
Intro to Yin - 3rd September 2024 at 6-7pm.
I have been teaching several types of yoga across the years and Yin has been my big favourite. By putting the body in poses for lengthy amounts of time, we attain an incomparable sense of presence. The benefits that Yin has on the body and the mind are incredible and who doesn't need stillness these days?
This Intro to Yin will start with a short breathing practice, we then will move slowly through some gentle movement before holding a few poses from 2 to 5 minutes, all with the help of props to make it attainable for everyone.
All students with a 6 class pass can use a credit to come to class, just book on the app.
In her own words...
"A few of years ago I was deeply unhappy with my life and decided that it was time to make a change. I wasn't well physically and mentally and didn't know where to seek help until one day a yoga video popped up on my YouTube suggestions. I didn't know anything about yoga then, but what I did know is how much better I felt after a few minutes of breath work and meditation. I became curious and started reading books about yoga and mindfulness and a few weeks later decided to book a plane ticket to India. If there is one place that is loaded with spirituality it's Rishikesh. I headed to the holy city situated at the foothills of the Himalayas and spent an intensive month of studying yoga and its philosophy. I came back a different person and all I wanted was to share with other people my experience and to help them the same way yoga helped me."
"I have now been teaching at Maitri Studio and around Belfast for nearly four years. I have trained in Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa yoga – as well as meditation, pranayama and philosophy. Since my initial training I went back to India a second time to deepen my knowledge and I am now 500hr Yoga Alliance Certified.
I have also recently completed a Restorative yoga training. I have more than 1000 hours of teaching experience and can help you find what type of yoga could work for you if you're not sure!"
