Yoga with a stick! Chair practice ideas.

I run a weekly chair-based yoga class for people with mobility issues and for whom getting up and down from the floor is too difficult. It's a great group and we enjoy the craic as much as the yoga I'm sure. Aged 30s to 90 everyone can join in and find some movement, breathwork and quiet time for themselves. 

To keep it fresh and to provide inspiration we use different props each week to help us identify movements and to provide focus. They all love it every time I bring out the broom handles!

By popular demand, I've annotated a set of my stick figures for students to have as a reminder for home practice. 

Please note this is aimed at students who've been with me in class and can translate my stick figures because they've practised in class with me. 

As with any home practice, take advice if you have health issues before attempting any of these, and ideally do in a class with a teacher first. Listen to your own body, don't push yourself hard (yoga is not a "no pain, no gain" kind of practice), and be careful if you're wielding a stick about! Mind the furniture, other people, and make sure the base of the stick is on a non-slip surface.
